Can Terry Prove Too Tough

Nine races are set down for decision this Saturday night, with the opening race of the night shaping as a perfect opportunity for Mossdale Terry to bounce back to winning form.

Prior to being sent for a break, the five-year-old was competing strongly against several horses that went onto success through the Constellations Carnival.

Runner-up in successive starts behind Wisper A Secret, his last run before beings sent for a spell was behind For Real Life when 4.5-metres away in a 1.51.7 mile-rate.

Resuming last week over the mile, it was a tough ask for any horse chasing as Braedos Lad claimed a 1.49.7 victory, with Mossdale Terry still able to produce the fastest individual last 400 in the race.

Carving out a 27.12 last 400, the gelding was timed to run his own last mile in 1.50.71, a run that should tighten him for the second up attempt.

Last start winner Pacifico Dream will likely provide a stern test, the Dixon trained pacer breaking through $400,000 in stake earnings with his victory last week, with Jack Chapple again booked to take the reins on the seven-year-old.

Grant Dixon claimed four winners at The Creek on Tuesday and has another strong book of drives this Saturday, with Watermelon Sugar a leading chance in the second race of the night.

In two runs since arriving in Queensland, the four-year-old chased home behind the speedster Wasa Heat Seeker through a NR70 Series heat and final.

Despite the wide gate, the Sweet Lou gelding will be a force and can look to make the most of the front-line position to keep ahead of the main danger, Royal Speech, which draws awkwardly inside the second line.

The open pace will be an interesting contest, just six runners to do battle.

Fire Fox will be second up for the Chantal Turpin stable and draws outside the front line, while experienced open class campaigner Deus Ex, returns from a freshen from gate two, with Chloe Butler taking the reins.

If the speed is frenetic over the mile, Smiffys Terror will be tucked away, ready to take his shot along the passing lane.

Race one is scheduled for 6.15pm, with race nine at 10.22pm

BEST BETS

Chris Barsby- R8 N3 BRONSKI DELIGHT: “She is down on form numerically, but I think she finds the right race, good draw, Nathan Dawson knows this mare probably better than most, he is back aboard, and I think this is a race that she can bounce back into the winners circle and regain confidence.”

Darren Clayton- R5 N7 TORQUE IN MOTION: “This mare continues to draw bad gates under the conditions of these mare’s qualifiers and again cops the carpark. The big difference this week is the 2138 metre trip, these mare’s qualifiers are nearly always at the mile. That can be the catalyst for her to bounce back to winning form.”
